Signature levels
A digital signature is the electronic version of a handwritten signature. There are different levels of reliability. ValidSign supports the highest forms.
Standard digital signature
The standard digital signature is a simple way to electronically agree to a document or email. Think of an image of your signature placed in a digital document. Although it shows who signed, it is not always certain that this person is actually the one. ValidSign makes placing such a digital signature easy, without having to scan anything.
Advanced digital signature
The advanced digital signature is a more secure way of signing online. Information is linked to the digital document that uniquely identifies the signer, comparable to a handwritten signature. Because strict requirements (eIDAS article 26) are met, this signature is legally valid and provides extra certainty about who signed the document. With ValidSign, this process is fast and fully digital for all parties.
Qualified digital signature
The qualified digital signature is the most secure form of online signing. This signature is linked to a special digital certificate, issued by trusted authorities (certificate service providers, such as KPN PKIoverheid and Cleverbase in the Netherlands). ValidSign offers both KPN certificates (smartcard/USB token) and Cleverbase cloud-based certificates that let you sign from any device without physical hardware. This digital certificate is essentially a digital passport added to the document, establishing the identity of the signer with the highest certainty. This makes the qualified digital signature always legally valid.
